What is Minnit?

Minnit is a knowledge exchange hotline. Often times being human presents us with answers that can be hard to investigate ourselves and seek answers to online with full confidence. With Minnit you can post a question, and get a scheduled 15 minute phone call with a real person with real answers.

What's our goal?

Let's design and build a product to test this thing

The team at Minnit came to Motel looking to design and build a fully functional web application in order to test market viability of this idea. This saved them the time and money of having to hire an entire design and development team without having product market fit nailed down.

How did we go about this?

We worked with our friends at ProofLabs to define a product strategy based on their initial product research. With this strategy defined we got to work drawing out our product flow, mocking up wireframes, and creating clickable prototypes. Once a direction was selected we got to work on building the back end while sharpening the final parts of our user interface and marketing pages.

How did we build it?

We wrote the app in Elixir on the Phoenix framework. Working in Elixir and Phoenix allows us to build scalable, performant applications rapidly. We leaned on Twilio for all things telephony: user validation, SMS reminders, and connecting users via conference call. The whole thing continuously deployed via Semaphore.

We did all of this in six weeks: designed, built and launched.

Minnit exists in the world now to answer questions, and act as a human help desk. We hope this knowledge exchange will be a wildly valuable experience for people using it now and users in the future.
