Why do we care about people dropping phones?

Many employers supply their workers with phones, and often times when an employee breaks a phone, the employer ends up eating 100% of the cost. Dropbot is on demand mobile device repair. They reached out to Motel in order see how they might best tackle this problem in the form of an app.

What can an app do for a dropped phone?

Well, as it turns out, a lot

Due to the fact that breaking your phone can leave you with a feeling of defeat—and just an awful moment all together, we wanted to position Dropbot as your phone personified. You should care for your phone as you’d care for a friend. During trust falls, you wouldn’t drop a friend, would you?

At the same time, if your friend is accident prone you don’t want to hang out with them all day like some sort of helicopter parent, you just want to help them out when they’re in trouble.

Why do we care about people dropping phones?

So we created Frett, your phone as a character. Frett would simply find out who you are (so your employer can register your phone to you), and then would take you through a series of exercises in human decency—under the ruse of a game. Hold your phone without dropping it. Don’t throw your phone into the sky. Don’t put your phone in water. Simple games that truly did nothing but hopefully make you laugh and remember to take care of Frett, and use Dropbot if anything happened to your phone.

Frett for President.

This project was a mix of user experience design, plus some character creation and illustration. Dropbot was a fun, unique project that let us test the limits of what a character and a little playfulness could do in the real world.
